The newly released NAV API Gateway MCP Server allows clients to connect NAV fund data directly to any MCP-compatible AI assistant, including Claude and ChatGPT, for deeper insights and analysis.

Many fund teams already perform analysis inside AI assistants and want their data accessible within those same tools. With the NAV MCP Server, any connected AI assistant can pull numbers directly from fund data in NAV's systems for a presentation deck, or check granular details of fund performance, in a single question written in plain English.

Operating like a plugin within your AI environment, the MCP server enables users to ask questions such as "How has our NAV changed since January?" or, "What is the total amount paid in management and incentives fees year to date?" and receive answers drawn directly from the fund's records at NAV. It is the ideal solution for routine or ad hoc requests requiring immediate answers, quick data visualizations, or rapid analysis.

The NAV MCP Server is now available at no additional cost.

Key Capabilities and Supported Data

The NAV MCP Server securely connects AI assistants with NAV's fund accounting and investor capital data. Position and security-level details are on the future development roadmap. By leveraging the MCP server within existing AI workflows, clients can query data, create reports/dashboards, or automate processes to unlock the full potential of Large Language Models (LLMs).

The AI assistant retrieves the figures directly from the NAV API Gateway, meaning the data is pulled from the same books and records that produce your portal reports, including:

  • Ending NAV for any date range, full balance sheet, and daily income and expense lines
  • Trading level, gross, gross of incentive and net rates of return; each extractable on a daily, MTD, QTD, YTD, and inception through current date basis
  • Cash balances
  • Monthly investor statements and investor lists by fund, capital balances and activity, units held, and fees charged
  • Current daily (estimated) and official (closed) accounting data, and returns and balances by fund

Institutional-Grade Security

The MCP server runs on the client's own machine and securely connects to the NAV API Gateway, which to date has handled more than 120 million requests. Every request is signed with HMAC-SHA256. The MCP server connector uses existing API credentials and honors existing fund entitlements — it reads only the funds the user's key is authorized to access, and it cannot make payments or write, amend or submit any data. All returns and balances are labelled official or estimate, so it is always clear whether a figure provided is final or preliminary. NAV Portal reports and investor statements remain the authoritative record.

Backed by NAV's Personalized Client Service

A self-service installer developed to simplify technical setup is included, but a dedicated NAV account team familiar with the specifics of your fund is also available to assist with MCP server deployment, suggest potential use cases tailored to your fund, and recommend the most beneficial workflows. Should an answer from the AI assistant require additional context or clarification in relation to NAV fund data, your Account Manager is on hand to offer information and support.

"A lot of our clients now do their day-to-day analysis in an AI assistant. The MCP server allows them to access the same data and the same controls as the rest of the platform inside their AI assistants. Service has always been at the heart of NAV and this further builds on it. Every client continues to have access to the portal and a responsive account team that knows their funds inside out and we think this will make those conversations more fruitful."

Our Commitment to API Development

The MCP server launch adds to NAV's continuing investment in its API infrastructure, which enables fund managers to securely pull granular data from a variety of REST endpoints via the NAV API Gateway. Wholly proprietary and developed, tested, and maintained by our in-house team of IT professionals, NAV APIs help automate reporting, reduce manual work, and provide programmatic visibility into fund activity, performance, balances, and accounting information.

NAV also recently launched a major API integration project with Northern Trust to deliver real-time access to banking data and payment capabilities, and is in the process of testing and launching API deployments with several additional major U.S. banks.
